This Infrared Obstacle Avoidance Sensor returns a signal when it detects an object in the range approximately 2 to 40 inches. It operates at 3.5 to 5 volts at around 20 milliamps. The Obstacle Avoidance Sensors usually come with 3 pins.
Infrared obstacle avoidance sensor is designed to detect obstacles or the difference in reflective surfaces. Example application: use on a wheeled robot to avoid obstacles. Sensitivity/distance can be adjusted by onboard pot. This device has an infrared transmitter and receiver.
The transmitter LED emits infrared light, which the receiver LED will detect and will trigger the digital on/off “signal” pin when a threshold distance has been detected.
